We have a four-week and a two-week course; however, we accept applications for other time periods as well according to individual needs (please contact us).

Application deadline: May 15, 2024 for those who need a visa and June 30 for those who do not need a visa

 

ACADEMIC PROGRAM
 
Learning Hungarian as a foreign language (HFL)
  • The program includes language learning at five levels (beginner, lower intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced)

  • We have 3 x 90 minutes of Hungarian as a foreign language classes a day. There are 2 90-minute-long morning classes taught by professional HFL teachers, plus 1 90-minute-long afternoon practice with Hungarian teaching assistants.

  • The result of your placement test will help you find the group that is the most suitable for you.

  • Note that we run the beginner course only in the first half of the program!

 
Learning about Hungarian Culture
  • You are offered 1 90-minute-long lecture on Hungarian culture or a short field trip every day.

  • The lectures cover the most relevant topics in Hungarian history, literature, art, film, linguistics, economics, geography and music in English and upon request in Hungarian.

  • The instructors are faculty of our university; our guest lecturers are renowned experts in their fields.

 
Other programs included in the price:
  • Opening Evening with dinner and folk-dance

  • International Evening where students introduce their culture through the cuisine, or sights, or a dance, a song, etc. with dinner

  • Farewell Party with dinner

  • Film screenings with English / Hungarian subtitles

ENTERTAINMENT AND RECREATION FACILITIES IN SZEGED DURING THE SUMMER UNIVERSITY
 
In summer Szeged is a rather warm place where water sports and beach facilities are vital for recreation. The city has three large swimming pool complexes as well as free beaches on the riverbank. The university fitness club, tennis courts, and jogging tracks can also be used by the participants of the program. On cooler evenings many outdoor restaurants and cafés attract visitors but if the weather is too hot, one can also enjoy one of the two air-conditioned multiplex cinemas.
 
ACCOMMODATION

Szeged, as one of the most popular cities in Hungary offers a wide range of opportunities. There are many options from smaller guesthouses to luxury hotels, so everyone can find the one that suits their needs and preferences the most.

Kálmán Vendégház is our full board Bed and Breakfast and the social venue which hosts various events during the course. Many of the students stay here, but it is optional for non-scholarship students.

Scholarship options
 
You can apply for a Bilateral State Scholarship or Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship that covers all your costs for the summer university. The deadline is March 28, 2024 (5 PM CET).
 
We also offer some discounts for early birds (discount is 10% until December 31, 2023), sometimes last minute ones.
