INTENSIVE HUNGARIAN PREPARATORY PROGRAM


  • The Szeged Hungarian Studies Center offers a complex and intensive two-semester preparatory program in Hungarian as a foreign language for international students who wish to study at a Hungarian university.

  • The program consists of 30 hours of instruction per week: 28 classes (14 x 90 minutes) on Hungarian as a foreign language and two lecture classes (1 x 90 minutes) in English on various Hungarian culture topics.

  • The language instruction includes grammar classes, speaking and pronunciation and reading, listening and writing classes. A special emphasis is placed on vocabulary building in each class according to the needs of the participants.

  • From the beginning of the program study skills, presentation techniques, and note-taking are taught in order to develop students’ academic skills for their future university studies.

Who should apply?
This program is appropriate for students who are planning to study in Hungary and achieve language proficiency. Naturally, anybody else who would like to study Hungarian intensively is also welcome.
 
Application requirements: A certificate of completion of secondary education is required. Students are expected to have a good command of English with a minimum test score of: IELTS level 5.5, Cambridge English 150 points overall, Cambridge Preliminary pass with merit, TOEFL 53 points, or TOEFL ITP 477 points.
 
Start of the program: mid-September
 
Duration of the program: 2 semesters (from mid-September to mid-June)

Tuition fee:
3800 EUR/year. 2500 EUR should be paid upon enrollment, the remaining 1300 EUR is due at the beginning of February.
 
Application fee: 250 EUR
 
You can apply for a very popular scholarship, called Stipendium Hungaricum, covering all your costs during your MA studies. The deadline is usually the beginning of March.
